Background
Leo van Biene graduated with an MBBS with honours from the University of New South Wales.
While undertaking psychiatric training in Boston, he developed an interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy, and undertook an advanced training as an “Adam’s House” Fellow in this field.
He subsequently held clinical appointments at Boston and Harvard Universities. After his return to Australia, he became a member of the teaching faculty for the University of Sydney’s Masters of Medicine in Psychotherapy at Westmead Hospital, where he served for almost 20 years.
He has been an active member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists, serving as its President and for many years as member of its teaching faculty.
He has taught and supervised throughout Australasia and has presented at conferences in Australia, the United State, Europe and Asia. He had been in private practice for over 35 years.
